The Thermals

Ive been craving some awesome garage rock lately. The Thermals are feeding my aching, starving belly with their great new album "The Body, The Blood, The Machine." If you like Ted Leo, garage rock, or just crunchy guitars, these guys (and girl) are for you. They are opening for Cursive on their fall tour, check em out at First Ave on September 23rd.

The band has also just released their new video for "A Pillar of Salt." It happens to be one of my favorites of the year. Its very fun. Can you spot the indie superstar cameo(s)?

I leave for London today so keep your fingers crossed that I have a decent internet connection. Be patient I will return!

Ambulette

One of three things usually happen when a good band breaks up:

1. Good band breaks up, then we never hear from any of the creative forces again.

2. Good band breaks up, somebody decideds that it would be a good idea to get a new project together. Its not.

3. Good band breaks up, new band rises from the ashes and the are great.

The latter is the case with Ambulette. Formed by former frontwoman of the critically praised band "Denali", Maura Davis's new project is something special. I had the pleasure of seeing them open for Rainer Maria in May and I was blown away. Everybody in this band can flat out play, and their intense rhythm section is very tight. They released a five song EP to tour with in the spring and were holed up recording their debut full length all this summer. It is finally finished. Look for it to come out early 2007. Until then, this should hold you over.
